Anise/Freya telling SG-1 and General Hammond about Egeria Captured Egeria in the Pangaran Laboratory

Egeria

Myth ~ ANCIENT ROME ~ Her name translates to "Of the Black Poplar" and she was worshiped as one of the Goddesses of Birth. She was also one of the Camenae, which were the goddesses of wells/springs/fountains and were worshiped the sacred forest at Porta Capena (They were later identified with the Greek Muses). She is best known as being the wife and teacher of Numa Pompilius. Numa Pompilius was the mythical second king of Rome and the successor of Romulus. Egeria taught him in the areas of forms of public worship and how to be a good and wise legislator. She transformed herself into a well in the wooded area of Aricia in Latium when he died in 673 BC. (Compared to the Roman Goddess, Diana and the Greek Goddess, Artemis [See Kynthia]).
The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ According to Anise (See Freya), Egeria defected from the Goa'uld over 2000 years ago. She founded the Tok-ra (See Carter) through her children. She then went to Earth to stop the Goa'uld from taking humans as slaves/hosts. Tok-ra legend says that she was killed by Ra (404 – Crossroads). Archaeologists on the planet Pangar discovered a secret chamber belonging to Ra beneath a more recent Goa'uld temple 60 years ago. In this chamber they found a sealed canopic jar containing a living female symbiote, Egeria. Ra imprisoned her there as punishment for her rebellion. For over 50 years, the Pangarans had been performing medical research on her. For 30 years, they had also been breeding symbiotes for the production of Tretonin, which suppresses the normal human immune system, but gives humans perfect health. However, Egeria gave all her offspring a flawed gene, which, in turn, made Tretonin flawed. After Jonas translated the writings on the temple walls, it was too late to save her. Despite this, she was able to tell the Pangarans how to fix the flaw in the Tretonin (610 – Cure).

Eliam and his mother, Hedrazar

Eliam

Religion ~ BIBLE ~ (Called Ammiel in 1 Chr. 3:5) Eliam is the father of Bathsheba (2 Sam. 11:3). He was also a Gilonite and one of David’s thirty warriors. He was the son of Ahithophel (2 Sam. 23:34). [Gilonite = a person from Giloh ("exile"), located 7 miles north of Hebron.]
The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ He is the son of Hedrazar, who is the head of one of the Enkaran tribes. The Goa’uld kidnapped the Enkarans from their home planet. The SGC found them a new home on P5S-381. The Enkarans need a planet with a dense ozone or they will become blind and eventually die. When the Gadmeer ship came the to terra-form P5S-381, Daniel helped Lotan locate their home planet in the Gadmeer database (409 – Scorched Earth). (Alessandro Juliani, who portrays Eliam, was also Katep in Moebius (ep. 819/820).

The prison planet of Erebus

Erebus

Myth ~ ANCIENT GREECE ~ (Also called: Erebos) Translated as "Darkness" (according to William C. Helmbold, the translator of Plutarch [see The Greek Anthology 7.429]) or "Covered"/"The Covered Pit" (according to Robert Graves). In Hesiod's Theogony (123), he is the son of Chaos and brother/husband of Nyx with whom he fathered Æther (pure air or ozone) and Hemera (day). He and Nyx are also the father of Charon (the Ferryman of the River Styx and Acheron in the Underworld) and Geras (Old Age). According to Hyginus, a Roman mythographer, Nyx and Erebus are the parents of the Fates, the Hesperides (Greek: "Daughters of Evening." Either three or seven maidens, whose job it was to guard the tree that bears golden apples, which was a wedding present from Gaia to Hera), Nemesis, Styx (River of Hate in the Underworld and the river of unbreakable oath by which the gods swear) and a set of personifications: Death (Thanatos), Sleep (Hypnos), and Doom (Moros). According to Aristophanes’ Birds (414 BC; Greek: Ornithes), Erebus and Nyx are also the parents of Eros (God of Love). He is the personification of the darkness of the Underworld and the personification of the darkest depth of the Underworld (the region where the River Lethe ["Oblivion"; forgetfulness] flowed). "His thick mists of darkness were said to envelop the edges of the world where the domed sky met the earth and fill the hollow caverns beneath the earth (qtd. Theoi Project)." In Edith Hamilton’s Mythology, "Tartarus and Erebus are sometimes two divisions of the underworld, Tartarus the deeper of the two, the prison of the Sons of Earth; Erebus where the dead pass as soon as they die. Often, however, there is no distinction between the two, and either is used, especially Tartarus, as a name for the entire lower region (Ch. 1, p.42)." Also, Erebus "...is the unfathomable depth where death dwells (Ch. 3, p. 77)." Homer says that Erebus is where the dead live as shadows. It is also the home of Cerebus (the three headed hound) and the Erinyes (the Furies) (Il. 8.368, 9.572, 16.327, Od. 11.37, 20.356). Hesiod’s Theogony (514, 669) says that Zeus brought the Hundred-Handed-Ones up from Erebus to help him defeat the Titans. Zeus sends Hermes to Erebus to lead Persephone to the surface in the Homeric Hymn to Demeter (No. 349).
The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ Recently taken by Baal, Erebus is the name of the planet on which a Jaffa prison labor camp is located. Here, the Jaffa prisoners refine Naquadah and build Ha'tak vessels. Bra’tac and Rya'c went there to recruit rebel forces. The Stargate of Erebus possesses a force-field iris (Also see Kek and Orpheus) (704 -- Orpheus).

Willis and Jerry

Enemy Mine

Popular Culture ~ MOVIES ~ Enemy Mine was a movie made in 1985 and was based on a short story by Barry Longyear. The story starts during a war which takes place between the Terran (Human) and Dracon (Reptilian) Empires. During one of the battles, Willis Davidge (A human played by Dennis Quaid) crash-lands on a hostile planet. Also crashing on this planet is Jeriba Shigan aka "Jerry" (A Drac played by Louis Gossett Jr.). The two enemies eventually encounter each other and after much fighting, they decide that in order to survive they must work together. (Very good movie; I highly recommend it)
The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ With the SGC’s discovery of a Naquadah mine on planet P3X-403, the humans and Unas must work together despite their differences. The Unas on this planet were once used as slave labor by the Goa’uld and forced to mine the Naquadah. Many of them died in the mine. Because of this the Unas do not trust any humans and consider the mine a sacred burial ground. They eventually find a common ground (shared hatred of the Goa’uld) and agree to work together (It wasn’t until this episode that I realized how similar the Unas and the Drac are in physical appearances!) (707 – Enemy Mine).

I’ll eat your liver! With some fava beans

Ethon

Myth ~ ANCIENT GREECE ~ The son of Typhon and Echidna, and brother of the Chimaera and Ladon, amongst others; Ethon was a giant eagle. After Prometheus stole fire from Mont Olympus to give to humans, Zeus had him chained to a rock. He then ordered Ethon to eat Prometheus’ liver for a total of 30000 years. Since Prometheus was immortal, his liver would regrow every night. Deucalion and Pyrrha (Prometheus' son and daughter-in-law) tried to chase off Ethon for 30 years. Hercules eventually killed Ethon.
The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ In this episode, SG-1 returns to Tegalus (the home of the Caledonian Federation and the Rand Protectorate) to battle the Ori. In the process, the Prometheus is destroyed (915 -- Ethon).

The Kull Warrior: Alive dead stuff in a cool suit Didn’t your mother teach you not to leave corpses laying around!

Evil Dead

Popular Culture ~ MOVIES ~ Quite possibly the greatest and best "horror" trilogy in the history of the universe! The trilogy is made up of The Evil Dead (1981; aka Book of the Dead), Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn (1987), and Army of Darkness: Evil Dead 3 (1993 aka The Medieval Dead). They were written and directed by Sam Raimi and stared Bruce Campbell as Ash, the hero. Basically the story is about the Necronomicon (Book of the Dead), which turns everyone, except Ash, into Zombies. Ash has to kill the Zombies and dismember them with a chainsaw. Learn More: Deadites Online - The Fan’s Official Source for Evil Dead.
The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ Burke, an old "friend" of O’Neill’s, refers to the reanimated Honduran guerrilla: "What’s with the guy from Evil Dead?" who was essentially a Zombie. His corpse was left too close to the Ancients’ Healing Device. While the Goa’uld Telchak used the Fountain of Youth to make the sarcophagus, Anubis used a duplicate of the Device to create the Kull Warriors on Tartarus. The Kull, when created, are made from dead tissue and then animated with the device. They were genetically engineered by Thoth to ultimately replace Jaffa. They are encased in Darth Vader-like suits and possess "blank slate" symbiotes (devoid of genetic memory). They are virtually unstoppable, however they have a life span of about three weeks (711/712 – Evolution).

Eye of Ra: You’ll shoot your eye out! Ra’s secret place on Abydos

Eye of Ra

Myth ~ ANCIENT EGYPT ~ After Ra created the Earth; he ruled mankind in human form for thousands of years. During this time, his body began to age and the humans no longer feared him. He convened with the other gods (Shu, Tefnut, Geb, Nut, and Nun) in his secret place. Nun suggested that Ra send his eye in the form of Sakhmet. Sakhmet went throughout the land of Egypt, slaughtering all she came upon. As the waters of the Nile ran red with blood, Ra decided that there had been enough slaughter and tried to recall Sakhmet. However, she was having too much fun and refused. Ra then had his minions gather a great quantity of red ochre (a dye) and a great quantity of the strongest beer. He mixed them together and poured it on the ground of the next village that she was to attack. Sakhmet saw the red beer, thought it was blood, and drank it all. Drunk, she returned to Ra without killing any more humans. Thus, Ra changed her name to Hathor, and she became a Goddess of Love.
The Show (Stargåte SG-1) ~ Apparently there are many "eyes" which are "weapons of unimagined power." We have already seen the Eye of Tiamat in a previous episode. There are six "eyes" in total (Apophis and Osiris also had their own at one time). Anubis used the Eye of Ra in conjunction with the other five to annihilate the planet of Abydos [Grrrr!] (622 – Full Circle).
